About me
My name is Ruyi.
A real person for sure:p
I am now living in China.
In love with art, sports and travelling.
Passionate with everything new and challenging.
I am also a huge animal-lover.
I still remember when I watched Finding Nemo for the first time, there was one scene shot from Nemo's perceptive in the tank watching the people who captured him. The point of view gave me an overwhelming sense of what it feels like to be harmed as animals are. At that time, I realized how visual arts could affect society’s ideology because they help audiences empathize with the characters and become aware of the issues that matter.
In my mind, Finding Nemo reflects how our world has never been equal for everyone and every creature. The accessibility to freedom, to be away from wars, hunger or disease, or even receive an education is not universal. Therefore, I have always wanted to use visual arts as a method to help out the less fortunate in order to make the world a better place.
My art is mainly rooted in the relationship between self and world and is a reflection from inner to outer to trigger a familiarity in the audience and spread awareness about the causes I support. This reflection forms the theme of my art — “colorfully black”. By using highly saturated and delightful colors, I want to contrast the problems that are serious and painful and make people aware of them.
My greatest interest in interactive media arts came when I saw an electronic board half a year ago: it contained a credit card swiper in the middle of a screen displaying bread. By swiping a credit card and donating money, one piece of bread on that screen would be cut off, representing the meal that a family in Peru would receive. I realized at that time that the greatest and most effective idea dissemination is created through technology’s interaction with people, which brings out more meaning to the world.
I decided to create this kind of interactive projects in order to spread the kindness of society by involving more community engagement and make people more aware of social and environmental responsibility. I believe art is the channel for connection and communication. At the same time, it is a channel for making the world a better place for everyone to live in.
